Shadow in the Sand
Gustavo Ron's adaptation of Maia Wojciechowska's 1964 novel "Shadow of a Bull."
It is a story of destiny, courage, and identity set in the world of bullfighting in Spain. Manolo Olivar, a twelve-year-old boy, grows up in the shadow of his father, Juan Olivar, a legendary Spanish bullfighter who died in the ring. Through his journey, Manolo discovers that courage is not just about facing a bull, but about choosing one's own path. The novel explores themes of identity, tradition, and the power of deciding who one wants to be in life. "Shadow of a Bull" won the 1965 Newbery Medal for its literary impact on young adult literature.
